Paul has harsh words for the foolishness of men and their so-called wisdom. Even in nature itself, a seminal thing such as farming gives us examples that we can relate to on God’s processes. The mystery of the gospel is not so foreign that it is unspoken about all around, it is only told in whispers to those who listen for it. Self-sacrifice is the doorway to life. The “how,” of that equation is quite easily attestable all throughout creation. Not only is this so, but it is a necessary component to doing everyday functions in the practical world. Yet, in relationships, people want to conveniently deny their acquaintance with the idea of self-sacrifice in the gospel message. But when they deny the necessary self-sacrifice, they deny the necessary transformation from the seed to the tree. You cannot have the orchard without burying the seed first. We must move beyond the short-sighted message of immediate gain from little work. This is not the gospel. The gospel is death into life.
