“Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment – to love one another – is the same message you heard before. Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.”

The fact that this commandment is old shows that we need reminders because of how imperfect we are without following God. One would think that loving another as yourself should come easily, considering how selfish we are, but that’s the thing, we are so selfish that it’s difficult to love others as we should. The concept brings along darkness and shame, thankfully Jesus Lives. We know longer need to be living in that darkness because of what He has done for us. We now look forward to a time when it does come truly naturally to love one another as he loves us! It is not about ourselves anymore, and it never should have been, it has always been about Him and praise God for that, as we talk about what had to have been done for that darkness to disappear.
