1 John 2:12-14 NLT

There is a whole spectrum of maturity in Christianity. This is part of the beauty in Christian life. Beyond the spectrum of maturity is the spectrum of roles. John connects such roles as Fathers and Children with both age and role. In each of these cases, believers are called to be actively participating. John notes that there is something valuable for everyone in their faith despite their function or age. All are valuable and interconnected. The old do not start old, conversely, the young do not stay young. In addition, John removes the paywall of age and maturity by addressing the knowledge in his letter to the complete spectrum. God’s message is universally accessible and is for all. This message goes beyond age or function. In a world where caste systems are acceptable, this has profound implications. Knowledge and blessings are not hidden behind role or maturity. They are given freely to all. This creates an equal playing field of shared blessing upon which to base relationships.
