1 PETER 2:1-3 / BLOG

“So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:1-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Peter describes the ways in which we fall short in to give love to each other. He writes that we must get rid of these attitudes and actions which oppose love. In every case, they represent a choice to focus on my benefit over and above the interests of someone else. We simply must put away ourselves and serving God first. The relationships we have with each other should free us from promoting and defending ourselves, and enable us to do the work of freely and fully loving each other as our Father loves us. Now Peter moves on to say we must crave something other than our own selfish gratification. In Peter’s metaphor here, all Christians are to crave this milk like newborns, even the mature believers, but don’t get is mixed with Paul’s metaphor of the milk and meat. This command means we must learn to crave the undiluted word of God, as a newborn craves milk. By drinking this milk, taking in God’s word, drawing close to Christ, believers will continue to grow up in our salvation. We must take in the “milk” of God’s Word is the intended path of spiritual growth. We must pour our hearts to God and few the need to want him in our lives.
