“But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.”
2 Peter 2:1-3 NLT
Peter is warning fellow believers that we will undoubtedly encounter false teachers. Even since the beginning people have been trying to deceive us and mislead Gods people by claiming themselves as prophet’s. Their false prophecies would contradict the messages of Gods actual prophecies. These twists of truth are destructive to Christian doctrine and harmful to us. They will deny Jesus or question his place as Lord and will suggest sexual immorality permissible for Christian’s. To protect ourselves we must work to know and understand Gods word and be aware of what we’re hearing and seeing those who influence us. Keep your mind on and constantly be meditating in Gods word.
