“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:8-10
I’m reminded of times where we try and cover ourselves up in shame and guilt to hide our sins. This was the response Adam and Eve gave in the garden as well. Also unwilling to admit to being sinners but the difference is they were the first to do it, therefore we have seen it done before and follow suit. Why? Does Christ hide because of shame or lack of ease? No! He brings up the Father’s will and recites Scripture when faced with temptation and persecution. Yet time and time again we give fear to the wrong things, further expanding the idea that we live for self as we hide the ugly parts that we carry. We should never do this but rather be open to reconciliation and repentance as we make it clear who we are selfishly so that it may never resurface again. Doing this makes us truth seekers, not liars. And we partner up with God in that.
