“We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.”
1 John 2: 3-4 NLT
It’s the fact that we do what he commands that shows we know him. For how can we claim we know him and yet do whatever we want? That shows we don’t know a thing about him. We may want to know him or want the security or insurance he offers but we don’t actually know him. We just know the logic that his reality brings. But we are so weak that we can’t actually stay consistent in the commitment his commands are due. Plus the risk of ridicule this world offers when we show how much we do know him, when we do. People see that and run. Only a select few truly take that ridicule with joy and honor. Only those who actually know him, and they get looked at as an outsider or like they are insane. The reality is, they are holy.
